For the virtuoso Italian duo, Francesca Dego and Francesca Leonardi, performing Beethoven has always been central to their musical partnership. This Italian themed recital is inspired by the fast and flirtatious southern Italian folk dance which ends Beethoven’s famous Kreutzer Sonata. The other two works offer contrasting viewpoints - Respighi represents a romanticised and idealistic patriotism while Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Figaro is a lighthearted and tongue-in-cheek paraphrase of the Largo al factotum from Rossini’s Barber of Seville.
