The Postcards to Africa Project provides young people from Lancaster and Morecambe the opportunity to get involved in a professional event led by The Dukes, and in collaboration with Nuffield Theatre, Lancaster, Ludus Dance and others.
The project aims to get young people to celebrate their lives, homes and surroundings and look at how these things affect them in their daily lives. Using these ideas, and working with professional creative practitioners, four 'postcards' have been created which highlight the emotional and physical landscapes of the young people involved. The 'postcards' will be sent over to young people in Nigeria through our partners 'Stepping Stones Nigeria'.
The 'postcards' are being presented over two evenings at DT3:
A short piece of theatre called: From Where I’m Standing, a reflection on what the city of Lancaster might look like many years in the future. Made by Neil Callaghan with the Nuffield Theatre.
A vocal ensemble performing traditional Lancastrian, Nigerian and Sowetan songs. Working in collaboration with Louie Ingham from Force Majeure.
A dance piece exploring themes of home and place. Working in collaboration with LUDUS Dance.
A celebratory 'flash-mob' somewhere in the community and documented for this event. Working in collaboration with Lenny St Jean.
Friday 19 June 2009 to Saturday 20 June 2009 @ 7.30pm at Dukes Youth Theatre DT3
