Relative is a free, fun and accessible performance journey along Morecambe seafront. Artists Niki McCretton and Kathy Hinde have been developing work over 9 months with grandparents and grandchildren from Morecambe and Lancaster to discover the crux of these relationships which skip a generation.
Morecambe's Edwardian seafront provides the incredible setting for this impressive site-specific event which features a Mobility Buggie drive-by, a Ghetto Blaster symphony and a series of short intimate performances.
The show is followed by stunning film projections on the facade of the art-deco Midland Hotel. As the sun sets, giant images of the Relative participants will appear, dancing in Morecambe's famous winter gardens. The piece looks at two of Morecambes most famous ageing landmarks and looks forward to regeneration on the horizon.
The Relative Project was commissioned by the Nuffield Theatre, Lancaster University, and has been supported by Arts Council England, Urban Splash, Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council, Rita's Cafe, Friends of the Winter Gardens, The Galloway Choir, The Friendship Centre, Shopmobility and BJM Mobility Buggies.
