Live at LICA supported artists Invisible Flock worked for a year to create Sand Pilot, a walking performance across the sands of Morecambe Bay in September 2012, led by the last Queen’s guide to the Sands, Cedric Robinson. The piece was developed with Cedric and his team, as well as some of the few remaining local fishermen who set nets on the Bay. Audiences listened to a series of headphone audio pieces describing Cedric’s life and the changing nature of the Bay while crossing the treacherous tidal sands.
The sound files can be listened to online or downloaded here: https://soundcloud.com/benflock/sets/sand-pilot
A beautiful 10 minute film of sounds and images from the public walks can be viewed here: http://vimeo.com/58462237

Audience feedback from those that battled the elements to cross the bay with Cedric was overwhelming, with 100% of those interviewed saying they would now be likely to attend another environmental walking performance, the Live at LICA contemporary performance programme, and more work by Invisible Flock:-
“Very different the two times - once with hundreds of people also crossing for charity (in the sun), and again with a smaller group and Cedric and the immensity of the elements lashing us. Both times were incredibly memorable, and at times the sound material was extremely moving.” Audience Member
