OPEN: Call for ideas

For the second year running, as part of our forthcoming OPEN season, Live At LICA is offering three micro-bursaries to artists. The bursaries are designed to provide artists with a creative and critical forum to discuss new ideas for making work.

One of Live at LICA’s key contextual themes for 15-18 is What is a 21st Century Art Centre? What community-facing projects or participatory exhibition platforms might such a centre look to realise?

For the micro-bursary 2015, we’re keen to receive ideas that incorporate a socially engaged approach from artists working in any discipline - across visual and/or performing arts.

Artists based anywhere and at any stage of their careers may apply with ideas at the very early stages of development. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from those based in the North of England. Selected proposals will receive support in the form of £100 and an opportunity to talk about the idea further on Friday 8th May during OPEN in a mentoring session with Live at LICA staff and other invited artists.

Submissions must be no longer than 1 side of A4 but can include text, visual elements and/or hyperlinks as appropriate.

Please also stipulate what type of support you think you might need to develop the idea further.

Please email proposals to Closing date is strictly midday, Wednesday 15th April.

Candidates will be notified of the outcome of their application by 20th April.

Further details

This May 2015, Live At LICA is inviting anybody and everybody to join us for discussion, works in progress showings and tea and biscuits between 27th April and 23rd May in our Peter Scott Gallery.

OPEN is our invitation to meet the Live At LICA team, meet the artists we support and share in the themes that will form our future programme. It’s an opportunity for you to help shape our future.

As part of this year’s OPEN, Live At LICA are offering three micro-bursary awards to help test and discuss an initial idea for developing a socially engaged artwork.

For performance makers, you may wish to refer to the Interactions Performance blog for a definition of this approach.

Those selected will be invited to visit us on 8th May and join an informal discussion about creating work with members of the Live At LICA team and other invited artists. To make sure the day is as productive as possible you will also be offered the chance of up to an hour’s session with a small group of mentors to discuss your idea in depth. You will be able to specify at least one of those mentors in advance from our list of OPEN speakers and participants to be announced shortly.

For those selected, travel expenses for up to two persons will be covered to enable you to join us on those dates, in addition to the £100 award. For applications from more than two persons, if any more than two wish to join us on the 8th May they are welcome, but we will only cover travel for up to two individuals.

For further information, or if you have any further questions, please email and speak to Alice.
