Adrian Brendel, cello & Tim Horton, piano

In this duo recital programme two highly-praised young musicians tackle the challenges of late, concentrated and often enigmatic sonatas by Debussy and Beethoven. In the first sonata of Op.102, probing and explosive, the direction of the music can turn on a handful of notes or even a silence. After this comes Schumannís beautifully simple Adagio and dramatic Allegro (both composed for piano with either horn or cello) and what promises to be a very special recital ends with a cornerstone of the repertoire, Brahmsís First Cello Sonata with its songful opening and baroque-flavoured central movement.
