Chetham's Symphony Orchestra
Arabian Nights fantasy in luscious, swirling sound, Rimsky-Korsakovís Sheherazade treats your ears, your emotions and your imagination. The thrilling young Iranian pianist Arsha Kaviani, honoured as Young Musician of the Persian Gulf 2006 at the age of just 15, joins his stunningly talented fellow pupils at Chethamís in Prokofievís Second Piano Concerto. Terrifying in its fiendishly difficult piano part, especially the maniacal demands of the opening cadenza, it is a masterpiece of colour and sound. A modern charmer opens the season: John Adamsís brilliant ëfoxtrot for orchestraí with its sumptuous harmonies and sultry swing.
