Daniel Gosling: The Matter (Curate the Campus 2012)
This project is one of 3 new digital/film commissions made as part of Live at LICA's 'Making Frames' artists bursary scheme. The works will be screened across campus via the PD-NET electronic displays, as well as some late-night projections in unusual places. The Matter, is about relationships and consequences: who you are, where you are, when you are. It consists of a suite of videos featuring statements, questions and occasionally images, inserted amongst the day-to-day information on the screens. All the videos use blue text on black background.
In the past artist Daniel Gosling has made use of protracted journeys to produce commissioned artworks and performances, first via hitchhiking and latterly via walking. Currently he’s working with writing, photography, video and audio. About his concerns he has this to say:
“Something being passed from one hand to another is a complex and beautiful operation that likely goes unnoticed. I’m interested in all aspects of that, particularly the oversight. I’m also interested in the things people think and say and in how the saying sometimes rewrites the thought.”
