Two distinguished Hungarians, and one of todayís hottest compositional talents, feature in this intriguing concert by the acclaimed pioneering music ensemble, Psappha. Ligetiís fantastical music reveals his sureness of imagination and inimitable sense of fun, captured in a pair of works, for three singers and seven instrumentalists, made up of short, wordless scenes assembled in cartoonstrip fashion. With his extraordinary intensity of musical gesture, colour, expression and humour, Kurt·g gathers fragments that glow delicately in Signs, Games and Messages, while Scenes from a Novel finds Kurt·g imagining a gypsy band of his fantasies in 15 miniature songs spanning the distance between minimalism and Gustav Mahler.
