I Can't Go On Like This - Approaches on Lone Twin
I Can't Go On Like This: Lone Twin and related practices
To mark a decade of Lone Twin, the Nuffield Theatre hosts a two-day symposium and performance event exploring themes suggested by the company’s work. Both days will conclude with a performance of Lone Twin’s new work Nine Years (co-commissioned by the Nuffield).
Since 1997 Gregg Whelan and Gary Winters have created an internationally celebrated body of performance work. Initially focused on ideas of place, travel and orientation, the project has since opened out onto increasingly broad physical and thematic territories. I Can’t Go On Like This represents the first opportunity to consider this influential body of work in relation to surrounding contexts and related practices.
I Can’t Go On Like This will be a cross-platform event, presenting academic papers, performances and other miscellaneous activities. Invited speakers and artists include: Anne Bean, Augusto Corrieri, Sylvie Gilbert, Emma Govern, Teresa Grimaldi, Carl Lavery, Florian Malzacher, Patrick Primavesi, Nina Tecklenburg, These Horses, David Williams, Nikki Woods & Mary Oliver.
The event will consider the following areas in relation to contemporary performance:
-Narrative and storytelling
-Placefulness and contextual economies
-Journey and travel
-Humour and pathos
-Work, labour and sport
-Kindness, difficulty and friendship
-Singing and dancing as social event
-Expanded approaches to writing for performance
