La Serenissima is one of the most exciting period-instrument groups. Directed by the virtuoso
violinist Adrian Chandler, it is named after venice, ëthe most serene republicí, and specialises in programmes of music by vivaldi and his venetian contemporaries. Tonight it explores the lively music scene of North Italy, an area long recognised as the home of the best violin-makers and of the most innovative violin concertos. Itís joined by the Scots-born soprano Mhairi Lawson, who enjoys huge critical acclaim for her interpretation of 18th-century music.
