Lancaster University English & Creative Writing Department present: Monique Roffey

Monique Roffey was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and studied for an MA and PhD at Lancaster. She has published four novels with Simon and Schuster: her second, The White Woman on the Green Bicycle (2009), was shortlisted for the Orange Prize and an Encore Award; her third, Archipelago (2012), won the OCM Bocas Prize for Caribbean Literature. Her latest novel, published this year, is House of Ashes. Monique has also written a memoir, With the Kisses of His Mouth, and edited The Global Village, Tell Tales. Reviewing House of Ashes in the Daily Telegraph, Ian Thomson writes: ‘Roffey’s knuckle-whitening novel goes to the heart of questions of political temptation and folly; it grips from beginning to end.’
