Northern Chamber Orchestra

Three great English works are framed by a buoyant opener by the youthful Mendelssohn and one of Mozartís ëoccasioní pieces - possibly for performance outdoors - filled with quirky turns and beguiling moments. Elgarís heartfelt Sospiri is an elegy for the end of an era, while Vaughan Williamsís romance offers an impressionistic image of the larkís song and the countryside. The distinguished tenor Philip Langridge joins the Northern Chamber Orchestra to explore the contrasting music and imagery of Benjamin Brittenís evocative cycle of eight night poems, Nocturne, all concerned with sleep or dreaming.
