Primrose Piano Quartet

The influence of Brahms runs through Richard Straussís early Piano Quartet, whose piano part the 21-year-old composer wrote as a showpiece for himself. Brahmsís own distinctive voice is heard in his mighty first Piano Quartet with its grave first movement, silvery intermezzo and Hungarianinspired fiery finale, whose wild gypsy ëRondo alla Zingareseí is guaranteed to bring the house down. Specialists in British music, in concert and on acclaimed recordings, the Primroses open tonight with a fantasy by the master of English Romantic impressionism, Frank Bridge.
