THE CITY OF LONDON CHAMBER ORCHESTRA WIND ENSEMBLE

The City of London Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1987 by a group of young professionals. Tonightís delightful programme, given by its excellent wind players, sees Dvor·k at his most relaxed, genial and tuneful in a piece firmly in the tradition of Bohemian pastoral music. In his 250th anniversary year, Mozart is celebrated with his most ambitious wind work for 12 wind plus doublebass, in no fewer than seven movements. His ëGran Partitaí was described by a viennese critic in 1784 as ëglorious and grand, excellent and sublimeí and it was to this Adagio that Salieri was referring when (in Schafferís Amadeus) he first heard in Mozartís music ëa voice of Godí.
