Vacancy
Chair of the Peter Scott Gallery Charitable Trust
Lancaster Arts is seeking a new Chair for the Peter Scott Gallery Charitable Trust. The Peter Scott Gallery is part of Lancaster Arts, a National Portfolio Organisation of Arts Council England and integral to Lancaster University. It is also an Accredited Museum responsible for the care and oversight of the art collections of Lancaster University. The Trust is a registered charity with full legal governance responsibilities and works closely with Lancaster Arts to grow and develop the Peter Scott Gallery collection.
Art collections have been part of Lancaster University since 1968, demonstrating early recognition of the vital role that university collections can play in contributing to a distinctive cultural identity and to the offer for students and staff as well as offering a rich resource for the city, region and country. The collection is remarkably diverse and is comprised of prints, paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, antiquities and contemporary works. It spans thousands of years, from the archaeology of ancient Egypt and Greece to contemporary work created by international artists as well as those working in the northwest. Major artists represented include Barbara Hepworth, David Hockney, Howard Hodgkin and Terry Frost. Recent acquisitions include Sena Başoz, Jez Dolan and Victor Vasarely. The collection is a very valuable resource, worth far more than the monetary value of the collected works and represents un-tapped opportunities.
We are looking for someone who is an arts professional with an international profile and a breadth of scope and understanding of the cultural sector, in particular, museums and galleries. And most importantly, someone who is excited about championing the collection and helping us to realise its potential. Please see our summary on our website.
Lancaster Arts is committed to reflecting the rich diversity of the UK throughout our work. We strongly welcome applications from disabled, D/deaf and/or neurodiverse people and those from the Global Majority.
Our outgoing Chair, Charles Hadcock has been an inspiration and huge support since 2022 and we hope to find someone to begin this summer. Please see more about the role and the application here.
