Call out to join our Ideas&Connectors Group

Passionate about the arts and what it can do to make positive change, particularly across Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding area?

Intrigued to meet and work with new people of all ages from 18 onwards, in sectors you might not have connections with until now?

Keen to play an active part of the Lancaster Arts programme to inform what decisions we make?

Interested in free training ranging from environmental issues like carbon literacy, to inclusive practices such as visual awareness? Or would you like to know more about how arts organisations programme and market their work?

If so, please read on…

The Ideas&Connectors Group is a central part of Lancaster Arts’ delivery for Arts Council England and Lancaster University and offers an opportunity to build a diverse and consistent group of people to act as a sounding board and community.

The strapline for Lancaster Arts is ‘Where Ideas, People and Places Connect’. The ICG can make this real.

Lancaster Arts is looking to develop a group of between 10 and 15 people that will meet three times a year and take part in the many activities we can offer you as key partners in our work. We intend that this group offers an exchange of ideas, the things that matter to you and us as an organisation.

Some examples of this would be:

  • Notice of all our activity and the opportunity to join in special one-off events including Openings, talks and Creative Gatherings

  • 2 free tickets for each season for any show or concert to each member

  • Invitations to take part in our training opportunities such as access and diversity (visual awareness), carbon literacy and collaboration

  • Members will be invited to contribute agenda items and shape the areas of attention for each meeting.

What we ask for is:

  • a commitment to fully participate in three meetings in a year

  • being ambassadors for the wide range of our work

  • taking up specific opportunities where possible or of interest, such as the Community Researchers group or Collections Group

  • engagement and critical friendship with our programme We don’t want there to be barriers to taking part so honorariums will enable freelance or self-employed members of the Ideas&Connectors Group to take part. Any access needs will be identified and enabled by Lancaster Arts. Expenses such as transport will be provided. There will be the opportunity to participate online.

The Ideas&Connectors Group will be composed of a very wide range of people. We will make sure that this includes:

  • those who our work is for (audiences & participants)

  • those who it is by (artists) and

  • those who it is with (communities and partners)

We will be looking for:

  • Lancaster Arts volunteers (current and prospective from age 19 upwards)

  • artists in all artforms who have worked with us and artists who have not

  • students at all regional universities (e.g. Lancaster University, UCLAN and the University of Cumbria) from undergraduate to post graduate

  • staff from across Lancaster University (professional services and academic)

  • participants who have taken part in our commissioned work

  • those who have served on our previous Boards

  • a broad geographical reach across Lancaster District

  • people who have been part of our audiences for years and

  • those who barely know we exist but are curious!

The Ideas&Connectors Group will be balanced across the above groups, both internal and external to the university. We are seeking an inclusive group made up of people who are excited to be with others who are different to themselves in many ways and keen to include people who have experienced exclusion, marginalisation and/or racism.

If you are curious to know more, please get in touch with us at: hello@lancasterarts.org
