Avital Raz: My Jerusalem

Avital Raz: My Jerusalem

Performance

This is a very personal story, full of soul and conflict about a homeland. A solo performance derived from a heart-stopping song, Avital Raz explores the politics of division.

My Jerusalem was written 2 years before the current conflict but this show feels very timely. Avital’s personal exploration of what it means to be an Israeli and Jewish woman is moving, insightful and full of surprising humour.

“I grew up in Jerusalem, a city that always felt strange to me. A culture that felt somewhat manufactured. I haven’t been back to visit in 2.5 years (the longest I’ve ever been away) I dream of it a lot though...”

This remarkable human story is not to be missed. Please join us for a discussion after the show.

My Jerusalem was conceived during a Lancaster Arts residency in 2018 and developed as a WorksAhead commission with  hÅb//STUN + Contact in 2019.

My Jerusalem is nothing short of astonishing

Exposed Magazine

Local audiences may remember Avital from Rafiki Jazz who performed here in 2019.

There is no-one quite like Avital Raz in the world of music right now, and she should be applauded for the intelligence and singularity of her artistic vision.
