Beacons

Performance

Send us your messages of love and hope.

Beacons is a project about hope and love right now when perhaps we need it most. Lancaster Arts is working with the students at Lancaster University, whether on campus or studying remotely. Artist David Boultbee of BREADart is creating a unique light and sound installation that will happen on campus in March.

Beacons will illuminate surprising corners of the campus and broadcast messages of love and hope in a nightly serenade.
David Boultbee

Messages from students will be collected over the next month to inspire an event that announces hope from the rooftops. Sound and light will highlight locations across campus in March as we bring the messages to you through live performance. The Beacons performance will then be translated into a digital work to create a legacy for the project and message to the future.

How to Take Part

This project is for every student at Lancaster University, undergraduate to postgraduate, whether you are living on or off campus in Lancaster or much more remotely. Right nowwe need your messages. All messages will be anonymousYour message needs to reach people in a moment and last in their memory. In one sentence or a few words:

  • Express your feelings of love to this place. Do you have a particular affection for a location on campus? What does this place represent in terms of love, friendship and kindness?

  • And/or tell us your messages of hope in relation to this place. What makes you hopeful now? What do you hope for in the future?

Beacons is an important reminder at this difficult time that we can still collaboratively create something hopeful when things seem bleak.
