With growing trends in handmade aesthetics in a society built on mass production,this exhibition aims to challenge where our values lie. Will the trend of the handmade aesthetic be short-lived? Or, in an increasingly instant and technological world, are we beginning to appreciate individual skill and craftsmanship?
Like other factories at the time, Pilkington’s produced ceramics on a mass-scale. however, by employing artists and craftsmen handmade skill remained integral to production.
By showcasing the work of the Pilkington’s pots in an open, domestic environment this exhibition intends to provoke discussion about what the role of ceramics might be in society today.
