Upcycling in the Mill Race

Events

Bring an old piece of furniture to the back of the old Gillows Furniture Showroom by the Sugarhouse on Saturday, December 16th and upcycle or ‘art-cycle’ it with award winning artist Anthony Padgett into an original piece of ‘Gilloglypta’!

‘Gilloglypta’ connects ‘high-end historic’ with everyday utilitarian in a hybrid furniture up-cycling workshop that we hope will lead to future exhibitions.

Create original art for Christmas! Please join us from 10am to 2pm. Furniture up-cyclers and artists are encouraged to bring their own pieces to create new future collaborations.

Furniture Up-cycling in the Mill Race is part of the Mill Race Cultural Programme delivering a wide range of place-based cultural opportunities to help reveal and experience the area’s unique histories and distinctiveness. The programme is funded by Historic England, Lancaster City Council and Lancaster University and managed by Lancaster Arts. A Cultural Consortium of local residents selects and oversees the commissions.

The workshop will also be an opportunity to learn about the history of the area and creatively challenge the colonial legacy of Lancaster's historic industries.

If you are interested in bringing a piece of furniture along to Anthony's workshop please email him to book a place at anthonydpadgett@yahoo.co.uk.
