Artists Adam York Gregory and Gillian Jane Lees present BALANCE, a durational performance that results in a sculptural installation.
On Saturday 31 January audiences were invited to witness the performance and creation of the sculpture. The completed sculpture is now on display in the gallery from 2-6 February.
How has work changed your body? How has it changed how you view your body?
During the performance, Gillian stood on one end of a balanced plank opposite a large block of concrete. Over the course of six hours, she walked along the plank to the concrete and chipped away at the concrete with a chisel, occasionally returning to the other side to check their relative weights in the hope that the see-saw would balance perfectly. The concrete would become a sculptural equivalent of Gillian, a likeness in mass.
A self-portrait, baring all the scars of the work that made it.
