Lancaster Arts welcomes Alim Beisembayev, Leeds International Piano Competition winner of 2021, back to the Great Hall for the first time since 2024 with this dramatic concert programme.
We are delighted that Alim has been able to step in at such short notice, following the cancellation of the Mansutti-Repini Duo, due to an injury to one of the musicians.
The evening’s concert begins with the song and dance of Schubert’s Moments Musicaux, characterised by his trademark mood swings from major to minor, light to dark. One of his longest and greatest works, Chopin’s “Fantasy” has its roots in improvisation, demonstrating a freedom from the rules and restraints of other forms. The second half of the evening features one of Liszt’s most talked about pieces, with the sheer complexity of the sonata meaning no analytical interpretation has been widely accepted.
Announced as a BBC New Generation Artist for 2023–25, Alim made his BBC Proms debut in 2023, performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Sinfonia of London. Since Alim last played with us he has continued to tour internationally, most recently with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic amongst many others.
