Lancaster Arts welcomes the return of VERVE for a breathtaking triple bill, featuring work from internationally acclaimed choreographers with new approaches to what contemporary dance can be today.
Each year VERVE commissions choreographers from across the world to create artistically distinct, physically daring, and engaging dance work to be performed by 18 graduate dancers from the Northern School of Contemporary Dance.
In 2026, the choreographers are Alethia Antonia, Andrea Costanzo Martini and Oona Doherty. The three pieces revolve around connections: Alethia Antonia explores what you would ask your future self, delving into the connection between the individual and the collective; Andrea Costanzo Martini explores the power balance that is created between the performers and the spectators; Oona Doherty is an award-winning choreographer whose work bursts with fury and humanity, dismantling stereotypes.
Join a conversation after the performance with Matteo Marfoglia, Artistic Director of Verve, a few of the dancers performing this evening and Rebecca Reoch, chief executive of Ludus Dance talk about dance careers in the north of England.
“Infectious conviction and physicality. Unrelenting and totally unafraid.”
